Looking back on 2017 at the Quality Hotel25 November 2017
It's got very quiet at Redbarn! The hotel has now closed until the February Midterm Break. However, you can still come and visit us as our self-catering accommodation and Leisure Centre are up and running 12 months a year!
It was a very good season at the QHY, finishing up with a fantastic Halloween Mid Term and record numbers attending our line up of activities. One of the highlights was the Red Carpet Event (see pic on left).
The staff did a great job and many are now on a well-deserved break. Sadly, a few have moved to new positions. Miro Jezovica had been with the hotel for many years and he has joined the team at the Montenotte Hotel in Cork. Everyone was sad to see him go.Nuno Galhano, from Vilamoura in the Algarve, has taken on Miro's position.Nuno has been working in Ireland for a number of years.
Things were certainly sizzling in the kitchen. Head Chef Kieran O’Shaugnessy did an amazing job of turning out a great selection of delicious foods – all locally sourced using the best and freshest products Check our video link here!
There were many highlights of the year and one of these was the re-reinstatement of our beach with the coveted Blue Flag Status. Redbarn Beach is the only beach in East Cork to receive this accolade.
Club Vitae has also had a great year. They now have a record number of five swim teachers, Barry Power, Tom Ward, Erna Cunningham, Alison Curtin & Diane Scanlon.
The Kids Camp staff continue to keep our smaller guests entertained, and themselves too at times!
Management and staff were all delighted to hear this week that the hotel is a Gold Winner in the YourDaysOur 2017 Awards. This is in the Family Breaks category.

The team were also sad to say goodbye to Sandra O’Connell and Grace Murphy, but also welcomed new members to the front desk, Robyn Kirby and Adam Donovan.
We also had a great team of students working over the summer months, under the watchful eye of Miro.
Here they are on a day trip to Cobh!
Looking to 2018, the management team plans for continued investment in upgrading the hotel and facilities, this will be ongoing.
