The Blue Flag Status returns to Redbarn Beach

22 May 2017

There are only 80 beaches in Ireland to have received this accolade in 2017. Redbarn Beach is unique in East Cork as the only beach with this status. The Blue Flag is one of the world’s most familiar eco-labels. At beaches, the bathing water must comply with the excellent standard in accordance with the 2006 EU Bathing Water Directive.

GM of the hotel, Allen McEnery noted, “so many people helped to contribute to this achievement. I would especially like to mention Cork County Council who regularly clear the beach of seaweed. The improved infrastructure for waste water in Youghal has also been a very beneficial for bating water quality in the entire area.

Across Europe, South Africa, Tunisia, New Zealand, Brazil and the Caribbean. Beaches and marinas that achieve this honour must comply with a specific set of criteria relating to water quality, information provision, environmental education, safety and beach management. The Blue Flag programme is funded in Ireland by the Department of the Environment, Community & Local Government.

Allen finished by saying, “The Quality Hotel, Youghal is renowned for its seaside location and a favourite holiday venue for families. Guest accommodation is literally just a stone’s throw from the beach. So, if you are looking for some good old fashioned fun on the beach, and an amazing Blue Flag Beach too, Quality Hotel & Leisure Centre, Youghal, is the perfect place for you!”
